Choosing memory care begins with understanding your loved one’s needs. Our Director of Care arranges an assessment, either in person or by video, to determine whether One Kenton Place can safely provide the support they require.

We review their health, daily routines, mobility, personal care needs, and cognitive changes. Families help us understand their preferences, history, and what makes them feel comfortable. This information guides both the admission decision and their individualized care plan.

To proceed, we require a completed application, a medical assessment completed by your loved one’s healthcare practitioner, and a $1,500 deposit.

If admission is approved and you proceed, the deposit is applied toward the first month’s fee. If our team determines that we cannot safely admit your loved one, the full deposit is refunded. If you choose not to proceed after the assessment, $500 is refunded and $1,000 is retained to cover the assessment cost.

If a move is not appropriate at this time, we’ll discuss the assessment findings and possible next steps with you. Future admission remains subject to your loved one’s needs and suite availability.

When admission is confirmed, our team works with you to plan the move, prepare the suite, and share the information needed for a welcoming transition.

Moving into a new home is a significant change. During the first two weeks, our team focuses on getting to know your loved one, supporting their comfort, and learning which routines help them feel secure. Each person adjusts at their own pace.

Before moving in, we can discuss whether a familiarization visit would be helpful. Families are encouraged to share information about daily routines, communication preferences, favourite activities, cultural traditions, and sources of comfort.

During the initial days, our team assesses care needs, nutrition, mobility, cognition, and fall risk. We observe how your loved one responds to their new surroundings and use what we learn to develop and refine their individualized care plan.

We introduce residents to meals, activities, staff, and neighbours at a pace that suits them. Participation is guided by their interests, abilities, and preferences, with opportunities for both social connection and quiet time.

Familiar photographs, artwork, and meaningful belongings can help personalize the suite. Please coordinate with our team before bringing furniture or equipment so the room remains comfortable and accessible for care.

We stay in touch with families about how their loved one is settling in and encourage you to share observations or concerns. Together, we can adjust our approach as we learn what works best.

Visits and outings can remain an important part of family life. Please discuss outings or overnight stays with our care team so we can plan for medications, mobility, and other support needs.

Families and friends are important partners in life at One Kenton Place. Your knowledge of your loved one’s history, routines, interests, and preferences helps us personalize their care and support.

We welcome visits and encourage meaningful time together, whether sharing a meal, joining an activity, or enjoying a quiet conversation. We do not have fixed visiting hours, but ask visitors to respect residents’ rest, privacy, and care routines. Please check with our team about any temporary visiting restrictions.

Children and grandchildren are welcome. Personal pets may not be brought into the residence. Please contact our team about arrangements for visitors accompanied by a service animal.

If you would like to take your loved one on an outing, please coordinate with our care team so we can discuss their needs, medications, and any support required.

Families can also speak with us about arranging birthday celebrations, anniversaries, or shared meals. Our team will explain available spaces, catering options, and upcoming family events.

During the move into One Kenton Place, we work with families to plan a welcoming arrival. Sharing a meal and bringing familiar belongings can help make the new surroundings feel more comfortable. We will discuss an approach that suits your loved one.
