FAQs

Typically, we maintain a waiting list, prioritizing based on urgency. On average, we experience one to three vacancies every two months, but please note that this time frame can vary.

To initiate the application and assessment process, we require the completion of the Application for Admission and Medical Assessment form by a Medical Practitioner, along with a $1,500 deposit.

Upon receiving the completed forms and deposit, our Director of Care will get in touch with the Power of Attorney (POA) for a scheduled in-home visit or video conference to help you assess the suitability of One Kenton Place for your loved one.  If they’re not ready, we’ll establish an estimated timeline for their transition and advise you on in-home care options.  If, for any reason, we cannot safely admit the individual to One Kenton Place, the full deposit will be refunded. If admission is approved, 100% of the deposit will be applied to the first month’s fee. However, if the POA decides against admitting their loved one after the assessment has been conducted, only $500 of the deposit is refundable. Please note that the assessment process is comprehensive, involving resources from all departments, and the non-refundable portion of $1,000 covers the associated assessment costs.

Our monthly fee is determined by the size of the suite rather than the specific care requirements of the resident. This means that even if a resident’s care needs increase over time, the cost remains the same. All of our bright, modern suites are private studios with individual, private washrooms. For further details or to schedule a tour, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at: 647-932-7913.

Everything, including cable service, phone and Wi-Fi is covered in the monthly fee.  The need for incontinence products and ancillary services (i.e., dentist, hairdresser, etc.) are considered additional and are the responsibility of the family.

Our entire building, as well as the individual units, are equipped with advanced security measures. Access to the units, stairwells, and entry/exit doors requires the use of electronic fobs. Families are provided with fobs that grant them access within the building; however, these fobs do not work at the two entry/exit entrances. This security measure allows us to allow our residents a certain level of autonomy, while maintaining continuous monitoring of individuals entering and exiting the premises, and ensuring that residents are not accidentally let out by a visitor.

Our clinicians and support staff are highly trained in mitigating conflict and managing aggressive or agitated behaviours.  We employ various strategies to manage agitation, while addressing the root causes of these complex behaviours.   In many cases, agitation stems from a sense of “boredom.” When individuals with dementia aren’t consistently engaged, they may exhibit responsive behaviors. Engaging them in meaningful activities can significantly reduce these behaviors.

Some of the more commonly used methods we employ include:

  • Redirection
  • One-to-one programming
  • Customized programs incorporating the Montessori Methods for Dementia approach
  • Comprehensive assessments to identify underlying causes
  • Referrals to Psycho-Geriatricians for further assessment
  • Review and assessment of current medications, along with suggestions for medication adjustments when necessary.

There’s a multitude of factors to take into account, far beyond what we can cover in this response. However, we want to emphasize that we are a close-knit, family-oriented community. Each resident we welcome is truly one-of-a-kind and receives personalized care aimed at harnessing their potential. Whether it’s developing care plans or designing and executing memory care programs, everything is tailored to meet the unique needs of each resident.

Absolutely they can, and it is recommended that they do.  As much as possible, we want our residents to feel they have played an active role in their care.

Yes, a couple can have their own hospital beds in a shared suite.

An executive suite comfortably accommodates a queen-size bed, while a deluxe suite can easily accommodate a king-size bed. Opting for a deluxe suite with a king-size bed is an ideal choice for a couple.

Sharing a room actually results in a reduced cost. We implement a second occupant fee, primarily covering the care expenses.
